Still a work in process, but thought I would show progress to date.
Here is the form

And a lam stack prior to glue up. I used solid black fiberglass wedges which worked very well. The fiberlass allows a very fine fade. Also, notice the length of that stack...under 24"

Solid phenolic riser, and a couple pine templates

Adding some clear glass and white phenolic on the belly side of the limbs.

I am tring a curved limb pocket similar to a cascade bow and as such I made a jig to grind them on the pattern sander

I have the limbs drilled/tapped and fitted to the riser and all overlays on. Now just a matter of finishing...hopefully I will get some progress this week.
Brad
That is bad a$$!!! I'll stay tuned for this one...

Not a shortbow guy, but that thing looks like pure fun!!
Come on brad, stop tortureing me!
Gimme some update... ;)
That thing is cool but how the h@$$ do u get the string on?
I have the limbs mounted, riser rough shaped with arrow shelf and side scalloping completed. All overlays are on and transitioned. I think it will be about 55# @ 28" although I have not got it all the way back yet.
Some pics will come this week.
String goes on with the use of a stringer, just like anything else.
So cool! I would love to see more on how you do the pattern sanding...
Beach, I will take some pics of my set up and post that sometime...these pattern sanders are great for making bows but you basically have to make them yourself.
Here are some pics of where I am at now. String is on, limbs are fairly straight. I did shoot a couple arrows tonight at 3/4 draw...a bit loud at the moment but dead in the hand.

Cool bow! Reminds me of my Cascade, my first recurve after I rediscovered them! Could you post a pic or two and some info on your pattern sander? Always looking for ideas to up my game.

Brad is the man when it come to shorties. That is just about the coolest bow yet.
I've been checking on this bow everyday for 10 days! You would think it was going to be mine.....
WOW!that is soo friggin cool.where do you get solid phenolic for the riser.
I got the riser chunk from Plastics International. Going to sand the riser this weekend...that is a messy task.
When Kiko Tovar was still with us and building the KT44 he had special short bow stringers made that went any of his bows. I have a beautiful OD green phenolic handle KT44 which Kiko gave to me the year before he passed away. Kiko was a great man with time for anyone and always willing to help. He was an original short bow guy and could really shoot them.
awesome is it done yet?LOL<><
Here's a pic of a JT44 that I had about 4 years ago..can't wait to see Brads bow. (http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/tt46/Robertfishes/JT444.jpg) (http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/tt46/Robertfishes/JT442.jpg)
Nice one Robert... Do you know if the JT is for shorter or longer draws as compared to the KT?
In the process of moving to a new location, thus all bow building is on hold for a littl while.
I don't know for sure..I think there was a maximum draw weight difference in the two models, one could not be built over 50#'s due to riser design?? or something like that. I was buying and selling a few bows 4 years ago and this one was one I didn't have long. maybe Meggarch can answer a few questions? I think the Kiko Tovar bows are really cool.
John Tluszcz(?) was Kiko Tovar's apprentice from what I understand, so when Kiko passed he took over. The KT is for Kiko Tovar and the JT is for John Tluszcz. Belive the the JT's are 45-55# draw and the KT's are 55-65# draw. I've always wanted to shoot one, never have had the chance. Absolutely love short bows, even with a 29" draw. Bjansen, can not wait to see the finished product!!!
Most interesting, waiting for the finished result. The 44" is it measured AMO or how.Bue--.
What ever happened to the finished bow? These things are beautiful!
That is an awesome lookin bow!
It's still a work in progress. I simply need to sand sand sand and finish
My friend has one. Good shooting bows. Grip on the original was a little high for my liking.
What's the average draw length on these? I've never seen anything like it. Makes me want one.
The grips are a little high..I tried to lower mine a bit as I built this one.
I thought I heard the draw was smooth until 29".
Those bows are beautiful. I wish more guys would start building like this, out of the box type design. I would certainly buy one!
Thanks...there is a gentlemen who still makes the KT-44 and the JT-44, "Little suckling recurves" I do believe. The JT has rear mounted limbs and the KT front (like the one I built). He has an ad in Trad bowhunter the last I checked.
