Title: Best Glue?
Post by: Shawnba67 on July 22, 2012, 01:36:00 PM
I have three adhesive needs, A self bow with a starter crack in the back, gluing the new sinew wrap onto it and an old glass recurve with a lam seperation. Is there A best glue that could tackle all 3 of these or any suggestions on the dif glues i need. the self bow is red elm with a thick coat of varnish. Thanks in advance Shawn

Super glue for,the fiberglass, and the crack in the self bow.
TB 2 or 3 for the sinew.

Macbow took the words out of my mouth. I've had good luck with super glue (cyanoacrylate), fixing splinters or small cracks, I think the key is catching them early. Have used it in pin knots as well, and they have held up. For the sinew wrap, you could also try 2 ton Epoxy, That has worked well for me where penetration isn't needed. But for cracks let the super glue saturated and seep in, dry, then apply more until it is full, then sand with ascending grits, and it looks great.

Wow never thought it would be so uncomplicated. I thought there was some super epoxy that would be needed to keep this bow from becoming just a broken  stick. thanks guys
