Title: homemade spindle sander
Post by: Jomohr84 on July 01, 2012, 03:35:00 PM
Hey all,

Just thought I'd post a pic of a spindle sander I am just finishing. Mounted a 2" x 3" spindle from woodcraft.com that uses regular sheet sandpaper on a 1/3hp motor. Just need to wire up a switch and I'm done. Had the motor laying around, as well as the mdf, and the spindle cost $28.00, so all in all a pretty cheap build. Motor states max speed 1725 rpm. Tried it out and seems to work great, just hope the spindle stays squared, I had to shim up the motor to get it solid and square to the top.

The hole in the side is of course for a shop vac, hoping that works well to keep the dust devils at bay!

Looking forward to seeing it in action, cant see why it wouldn't work given the motor speed is compatible
