Title: HELP on drilling TDs
Post by: kennym on April 28, 2012, 08:09:00 PM
Lay your ideas on me about how you drill TDs bolt and pins please!

Ideally, how to make 2 sets of limbs(or more)  and have em bolt on properly.

Or making a set of limbs to fit an existing bow.

i know this is   :help:

I'm interested as well.  Doing this sounds far easier in theory than in actuality.   Any tips appreciated.

Well - I have a jig I had a local machinist make up.  It consists of UHMW blocks with drill guide bushings pressed in.  They have a single bolt in the middle so it swivels and always sits flush against the surface.  The jigs are attached to a reinforced flat surface (angle iron keeps it flat and square). Two for the riser and one for the limbs. The key for me is to always be consistant with the thickness of the riser block and limb width.  After the limbs are mounted I mark them out and cut accordingly.  I got the jig idea from a similar jig Jim Brackenbury used.  A photo of it is on page 447 of traditional bowyers of America book.

As I'm trying to describe it I look further into the posts and see a photo T folts posted and that's basically my jig.  Mine isn't as fancy but UHMW press in drill bushings, flat surface and about $75.00 to the machinist and you got it.

Kenny The jig strungstick is talking about is what I used as well. The key to it is grinding the width of the limbs the same before you drill. After that its cake to make another set.

Setup a template to drill the riser the same way and it will match everytime.
