So now that I am newly laid off and finding myself with whole lot's of time... :banghead:
I was asked to make a bow for my friends daughter down in the Sacramento, CA area. So after talking a bit with them we are using purple heart and zebra wood..
A couple of weeks ago I started on the handle when I was working on another take down..
Then in the past couple of days I got the veneers for the limbs worked up
(http://i383.photobucket.com/albums/oo273/timberwolf177/Bow%2018/2012-03-23_13-24-11_888.jpg)
Cut and shaped the riser
(http://i383.photobucket.com/albums/oo273/timberwolf177/Bow%2018/2012-03-23_13-24-24_204.jpg)
So now I am ready for the layup. Maybe Sunday.. it's supposed to rain again tomorrow and I have to set my heat box outside when doing the work.
But coming along.. should be around 25lbs at 26" when done. She is 14.
sorry to hear about your layoff. Thats gonna be a nice bow for your friends daughter! I built a longbow for a friends daughter a couple of years ago and it was very plain compared to your build.
nice detail in the lams.
did you drill and then glue in the plug,
what glue do you like to use for the creative side of lam making.
Bradford that is going to be one sweet bow when you get done with it.
Bradford...you have got this bow building thing down!
Looking forward to this one!
Thanks everyone!
I used my scroll saw for the cut. I drew it out then cut it like a loop-de-loop. Then glued it together with tight bond 3.
There is a very small gap around the circle that the glue is filled in from the kerf of the blade. I am thinking next time maybe using fine saw dust and super glue for a more finished look... but we will see what it looks like under clear glass first.
I am hoping to glue it up today.. we shall see what the weather does
will follows along.
Nice start
Very nice. I'm also following along. Thanks!
man thats going to be nice
So got it layed up and glued applied:

Got it out of the oven and sanded up he rough stuff:

Got my center line and drew it up:

So tomorrow I will shape the limbs and then glue up the tips and accents
Moving right along now!

Looks beautiful. What are the specs on the limbs?
.190 thick @ 1 1/4" wide. Should come in right around 20 to 22 lbs.

That one is coming along nicely.
Got a finish sand on it of 120 grit. Strung it up and tillered it. Comes in at 20# at 24".. just right for a 12 year old gal
Well.. had pics, but photobucket is giving me issues tonight.
Got her finished up tonight. I like it! I think the young gal will like it to!
