Title: My new hunting bow
Post by: Swissbow on March 17, 2012, 03:14:00 PM
Since you can't have to many bows I have built a new hunting bow for me. The specs are the following:

r/d-longbow 64"
draw weight: 55@27
limbs: actionboo with bocote veneers
riser: cocobolo with bubinga/osage stripes

Due to a total taper of 0.006 the bow draws very smooth and is a dream to shoot. No handshock at all and I can't see a visible difference to my other bow with a draw weight of 64@28. Will make some measurements to see exactly how fast it is.

Some pics of the bocote limbs. Thanks again Kenny for these awesome lams.

Looks great Andy!!

Tiller looks perfect, I figured it would be more limber at tips tho with .006 T

How wide is it at the fades?

The limbs are 1 3/8" at the fades and 1/2" at the tips. The unstrung profile has pretty much of reflex, that's probably the reason why it bends not to much at the outer ends.

I shot some arrows through the chrony this morning and this is what I got:

1. arrow: 51.60 m/s
2. arrow: 51.65 m/s
3. arrow: 50.15 m/s
4. arrow: 51.52 m/s
5. arrow: 51.31 m/s
6. arrow: 51.91 m/s
-----------------------
mean: 51.35 m/s = 184.88 km/h = 169 ft/s

The draw weight is 55@27 and I used an arrow with 520 grains ( 9.45 gr/lb ).

Brad, if I'd put the arrows in the target by hand it would have used these...
