I have a source for olive wood boards, {Flooring} and I am curious if anyone has made bows from Olive wood boards. Of course the grain needs to be good for a bow, and I do not want to use any backing if possible.
Any input?
Pete
I have never seen olive wood used for flooring. I always thought it was too expensive for that.
Would you mind if I asked where you can get it?
Dave.
I have a family member in Hardwood flooring sales.I can find out what supliers in your area cary or can get it if you want.
Pete
Thanks Pete. It would be great to know who carries it locally. Apart from bow building, I'd use it next time I need to do a floor. I just love olive wood. :bigsmyl:

Dave: Canada is rather large, want to give me a bit colser description on where you live?

Hi Pete I made two Russian olive bows Last summer One is still fine but my best one split on one of the growth rings right at the fade, bummer. I may just cut the top off the riser and glue a thin strip in or just a glue joint.
I sure would give the olive boards a go, Good Luck
Chuck
The boards are free, as are some Hickory, and Acaitia, so I think I will try to find the right grains and start with some simple Piramid types, 50# and under. To bad the best looking grain is the worst for making a bow. :(

While it's unfortunate from an aesthetic perspective, it does help when sorting lumber. Others have mentioned lumber yards glad of getting the "boring" stock their customers pass up.
Sorry Pete, I sometimes suffer from brain malfunctions. :o
I live in Cambridge, Ontario. A bit less than an hour west of Toronto.
Dave.
Pete, i would love to get my hands on a couple pieces of that. How much for them? I am in Edmonton, Alberta. Richard.
I won't have any for sale. It is going to be a search to find some suitable for my own use.
Pete
Now that I know it's available, I'll be looking for it. Olive wood is one of my favorites.
It would look amazing in a glass bow.
Dave.
