Title: Dry Box Idea???
Post by: dinorocks on March 13, 2012, 12:02:00 PM
While working in my bow shop (basement) on removing some mass from some of my unseasoned staves, I was contemplating building a dry box to speed the drying process up a bit...  I was thinking that after I whittled my stave into a bow blank, sealed it, and clamped it to a caul, I could insert the blank/caul into a door I could cut into  my furnace pipe.  There is a section of pipe that takes a 45 degree turn down before straightening out that I could install a sealed door.  My furnace fan runs consistently and the heat turns on as needed per thermostat. :knothead:

Thanks!

I wouldn't cut into ther furnace pipe but make a heat exchange of some sort.  Actually a few light bulbs would be cheaper, easer and safer.

Thanks Pat!  Good advice!  My wife would probably not like if I cut into our furnace pipe!

It would only work in the winter as well. I really like my dry box in the summer with our high humidity. Winters are dry.
