Title: Bear grizzly refurb question
Post by: Dmaxshawn on March 08, 2012, 07:01:00 PM
This is the first refurb I've done and was wondering if you guys order new bear medallions or restore the originals?   If so how do you restore?   I've had the medallion in my old reloading tumbler all day and it's just doing much.   Maybe I need some new media for my tumbler.

Thanks shawn

I've also cleaned them up using finger nail polish remover.  There is a restoration 101 tutorial on the history/collecting forum that is pretty interesting.  Older bows are a lot of fun to bring back to life.

Have no clue what year it is.   There was a 53 behind the strike plate.

The bow was marked 50 pounds

Thanks I'll try fingernail stuff.

Its tumbled for a day now and its bronze in color with just a few spots left on it.  So I'll just keep what im doing.   Im not a old bear guy either.  A friend asked me to refinish it for him for a turkey hunt so thats simple enough.
