The last build was the first in 4 years, although it did not end in usable bow, it was a much needed refresher. So here we go lets see it ends up this time. So let's start with a riser. First up is cutting out the pieces of riser. I will use the swing fixtures for my band saw. (http://i1198.photobucket.com/albums/aa453/abraham743/001-1.jpg) (http://i1198.photobucket.com/albums/aa453/abraham743/002.jpg)
Here are the pieces off of the band saw and getting glued up. (http://i1198.photobucket.com/albums/aa453/abraham743/bowbuild002-1.jpg) (http://i1198.photobucket.com/albums/aa453/abraham743/bowbuild003-1.jpg)
out of the oven and cleaned up (http://i1198.photobucket.com/albums/aa453/abraham743/bowbuild013.jpg)
then back to the bandsaw and onto my grinding fixtures (http://i1198.photobucket.com/albums/aa453/abraham743/bowbuild014.jpg) (http://i1198.photobucket.com/albums/aa453/abraham743/bowbuild018.jpg) (http://i1198.photobucket.com/albums/aa453/abraham743/bowbuild017.jpg)
I use the same type fixture to grind my fadeouts. then she is ready to go. (http://i1198.photobucket.com/albums/aa453/abraham743/bowbuild020.jpg)
That's going to be a looker!

Where did you get that insert to turn your spindle sander into a pattern sander please?
thanks
tenbrook
I made that little jewel its quite a time saver
If that is a grizzly sander I have the same one. Want to build me a insert?
I have some good items to trade.

On this topic you show the swing fixture that
you used, to create the great arcs for your riser.
Could you post the dimensions, as others are interested in the swing fixture, but would need specifications, to successfully build their own.
Thank you-----------John
tenbrook I made that back when I worked in a tool room. Now I manage an auto parts store so I dont have access to machinery any more or I would fix you up
John, about the swing fixture. There really arent any dimensions I can give you. The bottom piece needs a slot 1/2" to 3/4' wide to clear your blade. On the bottom of that piece you will need a key that fits tour mitre slot, generally 3/4" wide x 5/16" tall would work so the fixture repeats location on the saw reducing set up time. Then you mark a center line the length of your base and drill 3/8"holes every inch or so centered on your line. make sure center line is perpendicular to key on bottom. make the first hole at 5" from blase and go to say 15" and see what fits your risers. The key is that everything must be made square and parallel. If you have any other questions I will try to help anytime. Bob

The information concerning the "Swing Fixture"
is a great help. Thank you------John
Finally got some things done. She is glued up,overlayed and rough sanded. A lot of hand work and she is ready for finish. I think it looks pretty good for some wood I had laying around. I'd say it's looking VERY good for some wood that was laying around!
