So, here's what I've got...
Boo backing strip 1/4" in the middle tapering to 1/8" at the tips.
2 Aboo cores also 1/4" tapered to 1/8"
4 parallel 1/8 boo.
Helping my dad make an all boo bow this weekend. We'll be using Urac for the first time, too, with some heat lamps to help the cure.
I was thinking of using one or two of the parallels cut to lengths for a riser, and another for the belly, Aboo in the middle.
We'll be aiming for a 30-40# bow, we can do any length up to 72". Also thought about doing it Hill style with flipped tips to help with the tillering.
Main question is what suggestions you more experienced guys have for proceeding? If we do 68" NTN what should the width be from fades to tips?
Thanks in advance. I'll post pictures after the weekend if all goes well.
You want to make your boo backing 1/8" at the crown at the handle. The edges of the boo should be knife edged. From there you can either leave it 1/8" the full length or taper from the handle to 1/16" at the tips.
Your bow probably won't be over 1 3/8" to 1 1/2" wide at the fades. I'd go out about 6" to 8" before tapering to the tips. 66" to 68" is plenty long enough.
Thanks Pat. 1/2" wide at the tips?
For now yes. Later you may want to reduce that to about 3/8" or less. You may need the extra width while building the bow so you can make a slight string tracking adjustent.
Sounds good. Thanks again.
