A buddy has been slowly working on building his own bow with me. Today we got her glued up. I had to knock the glue off and remove the tape and see what we had. Osage & hickory riser, Aboo cores, quilted maple veneers. I think it will end up pretty nice but its plenty bright!

Project "sweet" more like it. What a good friend you are, if I were you that bow would disappear and you friend would have to start all over.
Looking good.
Nice-that maple looks nice left natural.
nice. Is it hard to get started? I have been thinking on starting on some. I need to build some for the family.
Nice.
It will look even better once the osage starts to darken a bit.

The first one takes a while. But, after you have a form built and build one bow to get some hands-on experience it actually goes pretty fast.
I didn't buy any plans or a kit, but that would be a faster way to go. Check out Kennys Custom Archery (sponsor). He has a good write-up on building a form, is a great supplier of wood, glass, & glue, and has an inexpensive template that many guys have used to get started. I built or modified 4 forms before I got a keeper.
It is addicting and there's always something new you want to try on the next bow.
Looks good. I like the natural colors too.
Looks good, Glunt.
Like those maple veneers! Did you get them from Kenny?
Hope your friend appreciates that bow!
Those are Kenny veneers. Curly maple (I typed "quilted" above). I get most of my lams from Kenny. I just glued up one last night with lams from Binghams. They are fine but not matched up like Kenny's and no one ships faster than he does. I'm doing a couple test bows to get my stack right on this form and then I'm going to try one with Kenny's "Superlam".
Looks great Don!!
Looking good!

Glunt - Kenny, What the heck are "superlams".
Wow! that's nice.
UMM, its a .001 taper that eveolved into a taper with powerlam and tip wedge builtin , so you don't have to chase em when they are covered in bow snot and squirtin around like greased piglets!
Kenny, can you custom taper those supers?
Waht kinda taper are you lookin for, Mike?
I'm thinking of a typical taper out to within 7 or eight inches of the ends wher it would thicken fairly rapidly. To be used in making a static recurve. I have a Howatt cavalier built this way. A nice shooter although it could have a bit faster taper in the inside portion. It bends a bit much at the fades.
I would need to sit down with calipers and calculator to arrive at actual taper rate. Gotta go to work right now but can get to it maybe on Sunday.
