I was just planing a bamboo slat for a bow back and I was wondering how to remove a bit of prop twist that it has. Can I use dry heat? I still have to cut out the profile and give it a final planing.

Once I get it planed down and to final size It will usually take the shape I want.
If you think it is twisted enough to matter I think I'd dampen it and clamp it to something straight then dry it with a hair dryer.
Bamboo picks up moisture rather easily I've found.

Don't worry about the twist. Clamp the boo down and string it for a center line and cut out the bows profile. Then when ya are ready to glue it up, string it again down the center of the stave, clamp it, drill holes for tooth picks and glue it up.
Thanks guys, I was worried that it might affect the bow. I'll see how much twist is left after cutting to profile and final planing.
Roy, I like the toothpick idea. It's just the ticket for keeping the lams inline during glue up.

Roy what do you mean drill holes for tooth pics? I would imagine to line it all up but... Can you explain what all your drilling through and where at? I don't know if this is a dumb question but I have never drilled any whole in a bow.
I will answer that for Roybert. I know what he does. Drill two small holes through the boo and slightly into core dead center of the bow and then again right at the tips. After you apply glue but before you clamnp it down you slide toothpicks in those holes to keep your back in place. Your handle will cover the center holes and your tip overlays cover the end holes. If it slides around you get a twisted bow.

Its really simple and works perfectly every time. We all know how clamp pressures make glue surfaces squirmy. Ol' Roybert's no dummy................................sometimes....
