I have heard of LVL wood being mentioned on the forums several times to make forms. I thought it was a form of plywood but can't find anything similar at lowes or any other lumber stores nearby. Where do people usually get a hold of it?
I seen some at Menards. The depot or loses should be able to get it.

Got mine from menardos. they have a bunch of sizes. I went with 11 7/8 x 12 foot. enough for two forms
It may be because you may not understand what LVL is? LVL is an acronym for Laminated Veneer Lumber. It is sometimes also called Manufactured Dimensional Lumber. It is used in the housing industry for beams as the multiple layers of glue and wood are far stronger than solid lumber. It is the layered makeup that also prevents the material from warping, shrinking and checking. This is why it is also good for making forms.
Lowes and H.D. do not cary it in the stores that I have checked. We do not have Menards in the south that I know of. I have never asked if you could order it from the box stores, but I bet you could. A local lumberyard might be better to ask.
i get mine from the Home Depot. It only comes in 1.75 widths so I chunk it down a tad with the table saw then run it through the drum sander to get it dead nuts.
Heres a link....

Home depot carries it around here but you'll have better luck finding different sizes of it at a local lumberyard that sells framing packages to contracters.
try your local lumber supply stores. The smaller ones not the big box stores.
Thanks for all the help! If not available locally is there a place online to order it from?
Can you run LVL through a planer?I bought some 11 7/8" by 1.75" but i noticed that it has two joints that are not perfect. They stand out and make it a little wider in that location.Or if a person wanted to thin it to 1.5"(my lumber yard only carries 1.75") is the planer a good option?Or would it just break out and make a big mess? Thanks scott
After searching more eariler posts i see LVl can be ran through a planer. Thanks scott
