Just came in from the shop and before I hit the hay I figured I'd drop in.
So far this week I have finished tillering my swap bow and sinew backed, skinned a sinew backed Juniper and put a coat of finish on it, and glued up and finished tillering a boo backed hill bow.
I'll post some pics tomorrow.
I do need opinions on the hill bow. It's a boo backed trilam with a bloodwood core and an osage belly. The riser is an I beam style with osage outer lams and bloodwood osage bloodwood. I glued up some blocks the same for the tips but I can't decide if I want to stain the boo and go with the matching tips or put some skins on it and go with antler tips.
I'm leaning towards skins cause I never seen a hill bow skinned.
PICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I vote no skins over boo.
Come on sticks, get yer butt out of bed and post pictures. Tapping foot waiting:)
Ah heck with ya, I'm going out to the bow shop........ :)
For a Hill Bow I would vote NO skins.
Awww, go on and skin it.
Wow Kris you've been busy since we talked!! Now up with the pics. I'd skin the bow :)
Skin it! Have you ever seen a skin bow that looked bad? Than again I have never seen a bow by the people here that looked bad.
I been leaning toward skins cause I have never seen a Hill bow skinned but then again It would look sweet stained with that classic look.
I vote no skins on a boo backed hill. Let that boo shine!
If the nodes are pronounced on the boo, I say no skin. If not, then maybe. Pictures? :)
Yep a picture would be good.
Here's some pics

I like the idea of letting the boo shine LOL but I also don't like a light colored backing on a hunting bow
The specs are 66" tip to tip, 56# @ 28" I figure she'll lose a few after shoot in. I glued her up with 1.5" of reflex and she has about 3/4" set and I figure will take a shade more which is what I was after. Not bad for a three day build. Now I just got shoot her some and pretty her up.
Very cool looking bow stiks, especially nice handle.
Here's some pics of the sinewed Juniper. 59" ntn 41# @ 28" might send this one to Kate (if I drew his name :D ) I'll have to check and see if that's who I got. LOL if not one of my little girls can shoot it

You'll have to check the swap post to see the sinewed Yew.
Very nice Kris. Outter 1/3 look a little stiff but not too bad. The handle riser looks very cool. I think I stain the boo and not skin it. Looks too good naked!
My first post was about the Hill bow.
This is a sweet looking little bow. Tiller is spot on!!!
I thought she looked a little stiff on the outer 1/3 myself Pat. I might give her a few swipes with scraper yet after I start shooting it in. It'll need some tweeking for sure.
I guess it's ok...
Good looking bows kris. I always did figure you for a bubble bath kind of guy. Now its certain.
I guarantold you David :D But I promise I ain't drinkin no fruity beer
I love those bows, Kris! The Hill style is especially sharp. And skins seem to always make a good bow better.
Nice Stiks!!
I'd do a Dirty Boo finish and let the Boo show :)
Very nice Kris! Both are great, but that Hill style is exceptionally sweet.
They both look good to me,still in one piece. My wooden ones tend to think they are take downs.
Nice bows Stiks. I really like the bloodwood hill.
Good job man!
Nice bows, I like the triple I beam. Bue--.
Kris those are both sweet bows for sure. Great job finding that line and not pushing over it! :clapper:
I was thinking the same about the bubble bath but David called it out first. At least your not in a rubber ducky suit.
Heck Kris I bet a good ole bubble bath is the only way to get that coal dust out of your hair. Not to mention the yeller dust also.
Kelly that coal dust get's in places I didn't know I had LOL.
Thanks for the compliments guys. I'm gonna give that hill bow a little tweekin on outer thirds. Right now that baby is at 1/8" positive tiller.
I still can't decide whether to skin it or stain the boo :banghead:
I been thinking about putting that yew bow back on a string but I think I'll just start a couple more bows and wait a little longer.
Got to go build a fire in the shop and get her warmed up and make some shavin's
Hey Kris, I know it's too late for this bow, but I used a blow torch to darken the bamboo for one of my bows before I glued it up. You can leave lighter and darker areas and when you give it a light sanding, it looks really neat. Almost a camo pattern.
Dave.
I'd like to see a close up of that handle and the belly of the juniper bow Kris. And the tips while you're at it please!
I really like that deer mount you have there also!
Kris you could always get one of Nate's fruity beers soak in a nice bubble bath and contemplate what to do with the boo. Light some candles and incense as well just to get the right atmosphere for deep and serious thinking. ;)
nice work kris. i like the juniper bow the best. im in agreement with bona, i too would like to see more detail of the juniper bow fades tips belly pics. rv
I'll get some more pics after I get a good finish on them both and wrap the handles and pretty'em. I gotta go the bubbles are gonna over flow
Razor, Kris is lible to fall asleep and sink under the bubbles. What a way to go.
i was wondrin if anyone else noticed the mount! lol I love it. Anyhow, that's some nice work there Stiks
