Title: Glass backed hickory ....Update with pics
Post by: JamesV on January 12, 2012, 11:57:00 AM
I built two glass backed hickory kids bow and after being finished the limbs started to warp and became concave on the (back) glass side. The poundage went up slightly but the limbs stayed straight and both bows shoots fine. I checked the moisture at 9-10% before glue-up. Both bows were in the heatbox 4 hrs at 180.  The cupping of the limbs is so uniform that it looks like a new limb design. I re-built both using IPE with no problems.

Lets see some pics. Did they cup toward the belly or the back?

The Adcock limb design is built with them cupped toward the belly and makes a less mass weight limb and a faster bow since you get more draw weight with less material.

If they have become concave on the backside you have probably unknowing stolen Adcock-Dryads patented limb design. BEWARE. LOL. Bue--.

I think if you put glass on the back and not on the belly, when you baked it the whole  bow dried out. When it's out of the oven, the belly can absorb moisture faster than the back.
