Figured it's about time I spoke up and said howdy, been lurking on here for quite some time, and feeling abit guilty for not introducing myself sooner. I'm fairly new to the whole bow building game. To date I have only built, or atleast attempted to built three bows, all have been red oak boards thus far. One was eaten by my band saw, second turned out to be a shooter but alas eventualy after 100's of shots and being passed around amungst my friends developed a fatal crack. The third bow sets unfinished in my shop, but will be brought to life one day.
I live in the PacNW and seem to have been blessed with an abundance of available bow woods, with an unlimited suply of Vine Maple and HazleNut growing like weeds on my property I have collected some staves and am looking foward to getting a few of them bending. I also have a very nice straight Black Locust that has been curing for two years I plan on cracking into someday, but am saving until I get alitle more experience under my belt(more on that later).
Anyhow I am full of questions, but figured I had better start by atleast introducing myself alittle. I am in awe of the skills I see exhibited here and hope someday to develop into even half the bower as some of those I have read on here. :wavey:
Welcome to the addiction. You'll never be cured. :scared: :biglaugh:

Welcome aboard bud. It's a tight knit group here and we always welcome new comers with open arms.
I tell all the new guys here that I learned all I know here and keep learning everyday. Great place to gain knowledge and retain resources for more knowledge.

Yep. That pretty well sums it up. My bows are better because everyone elses are better and so on and so on.
Tonto--I am also a new member--just signed up today as a matter of fact. I just finished a board bow, My 2nd (the first never made it off the tiller tree)and shot a few arrows with it. Although it will never win any contest for accuracy, power or looks--I gained a great sense of accomplishment. I am amazed at the bows the members on this board build. They are beautiful--better than anything you could buy. I signed up because I'm planning on sticking with this until I can make one of those beauties. For now--I'm petting my first successful bow and have a huge smile on my face. This is a great hobby! And these guys are the best. How lucky can you get!
