would it hurt to add overlays on the inside of a recurve so you wont get such a loud string slap?

Overlays are hard as well, you will will still hear a slap. Wrap yarn tightly around your string for about 6-8", that will hit the limb and dampen your noise. Or you can put a strip of mole skin on the limb.

if the string is 1/2" from limb it will decrease the slap greatly what im asking is will it affect the bow in anyway to set the string back with overlays on the belly side of the bow?

Look at static recurves for ideas.

Something like brush nocks is what your after. Any added weight on the tips will translate to more handshock and a sluggish bow. You would need a pretty long and high underlay to keep the entire string off the limb. Im thinking most recurves have at least 6-8" of string contacting limb?
