I picked up a new to me Ed Scott Owl bow with Rattlesnake skins. Bow is in great shape but looks like the skins need to be better protected, should I use Tru Oil ???
Thanks in advance
Yep, Tru-oil worked great on mine.
Might want to test a little spot first to see if is compatible with the original finish.
Ed Scott uses tightbond mixed with a little water over his snake skins. It gives them a very smooth dull finish. Is that what it looks like?
Tru-Oil is compatable over TBIII. I usually add TB over skins before I finish them for extra moisture protection.
Do you thin the TB and what's the best way to apply it without creating runs.
I sometimes thin it and sometimes not. A little warm water will thin it nicely if you go that route. Do a test first to be sure you get the right consistancy, thinned or not. What I do is add the TB in a small blob on the bows back and use my finger to spread it smoothly and evenly. You only need a thin layer so drips shouldn't be a problem.
Just spoke with Mr Scott and he suggested I just use paste wax.
Could you post some pics of your bow, I would love to see it.
Wish I'd known about the TB trick over the skins a month ago!
Yeah thats a good idea. I would have thought it would crack when the limbs bend.
