I've got a white ash board that is begging to be made into a bow! Does anyone elses wood talk to them? My wife is concerned. The ash has grain that runs the entire ten feet...quite unusual......shud be good for a bow. Then build a fiberglass bow on the same form and same poundage and compare the two! Any suggestions?
It's ok if your wood talks to you as long as you don't start answering!
Dave.
Uh oh
It would be like comparing apples and oranges.
That is kind of the point....contrasting the differences in the two styles. There are a lot more important factors other than speed. If speed was what we were after then we would all be shooting compound crossbows! I may pull in a friend with his beautiful selfbow and try to get some data with it.....I'll try to get my pounxages similar to his. This "test" will not be a cold hard numbers shootoff. I know that I shoot longbows for the wonderful feel and pointability. They are light and beautiful. Shooting and hunting with a longbow provides me a feeling of simple self sufficiency in a beautiful tool thatseems to muster the spirit of hunters from centuries past.9
