Title: Retillering a glasslam bow, need advise.
Post by: beleg on October 22, 2011, 09:18:00 AM
Just get an old bighorn recurve. I was looking for a riser because I have an old set of limbs from 1985 but I get this bow at good price.
Even thou the limbs are marked 62#@30" I measured it as about 54,5#@30".
Looking at the limbs, it looks like someone has sand belly lam to reduce draw weight.
I found a little stacking and checking the limbs I found that it looks like the tiller is wrong. Bighorn bow have a very unusual straight limbs when braced and this bow have more bend.
Note: This is not the same bow of the other thread just the same riser.
As you can see in the pictures, the limb profile at BH of the limbs is different (lower bow have untouched limbs):

I plan to trap the limb base (belly side) of the "new" limbs to straighten them a little.

Have anyone did it?
Any advice would help.
Thanks

To me it looks like the bow is braced a bit high, what might cause the limbs to bend a bit more. If you want the limbs to bend less, you have to lower the brace hight, no matter what the tiller is.

Sorry, forgot to mention, top bow have longer limbs (64") that the botton bow (56").
Even thou they are different in all the pictures of Bighorn bows limbs looks almost straight as the botton bow.
It looks like the fades on top bow are too deflexed or not bended enough. This is the zone I would like to change.
Thanks for helping.

You know....why not talk to G Fred himself?   You can find him on the wooln's link at the top in the advertisement window.  I believe he was the bowyer/owner at that time.

I'm sure he's busy hunting something somewhere though  ;)

Good luck with it, let us know what you come up with.
