A friend's hickory longbow, hill style, is pulling 35# and he wants me to install a backing to bring up the weight up to aprox. 50#. He suggested bamboo or glass. I also have hickory that could be used. What do you guys suggest? .......James
Boo would probably add the most. But thats alot to add. How long is the bow and how far does he draw? You could always snip length off to gain some weight, but not all he wants added. By the time you decrown that back to make it flat enough for a backer the bow will only be 25#. I would build another bow heavier and skip all the mumble jumble of adding that much weight.
heck I would play, I would add hickory backing, add in some flipped tips and heat the belly oh yes shorten it first if you can and I bet you could get close.
