I am Building Helen a new target bow, we talked about what her needs were and I came up with this...24 layers of glass in the riser for weight and 66" long..which is taller than she is.. I e-mailed kennym and ordered some actionboo tapers and parallels, UL glass to go with the other materials I already had on hand. Got it glued up Tuesday night..I got a string on it earlier today to see where I was at, so far it's 52#s @ 28" and 1/8" tiller, after sanding the edges it should be arround 45 @ 28"..fades are longer than the glass, I glued a 22 inch long piece of amberboo onto the glass riser for the fade ends and power lam. looks awesome.
Riser really looks great!
24 layers of glass in the riser - WOW!
I don't think I'd hav the patience to glue that much stuff together.
Looks good Robert.
This one is shaping up to be a looker!! Those lams are awesome-can't wait to see the finished bow.
That looks great and the veneer is stunning. I have been thinking about putting more weight in my risers but I don't think I have the patience to work with that much glass.
SWEET!
As said before, I'd have trouble with patience with that many pieces!
Great lookin bow!
That zebra has me salivating!!
Thanks for posting. Hope to see more of this bow.
got to work on the bow again today, got tips and riser roughed in. (http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/tt46/Robertfishes/septriserunfinished1.jpg)
That bow is going to be sharp looking when complete.
That's over the top!! Man it's nice!
Wow! Nice.
Looking good Robert!!
That is one good looking piece, must be a strong handle. Bue--.
thanks for the nice words..I think it will be a nice one for Helen. I just shot it with the 2nd coat of spar urethane..gonna wait a couple of minutes and shoot a few more coats every 15 minutes..my dehumidifiers on high in the spray room
I made this on on my 62/64" kennym design form, Helen wanted 66"bow so i made stack a little thicker than the 64"stack, bow is 1.40" at it's widest point and .625 wide at string grouves ... specs are 66 inch long, cut 3/16 past center(should be OK.. lots of glass in riser!) 46#s at 28" gonna put it on scale later today.. seems to have very good cast (http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/tt46/Robertfishes/66zebrariserpic-1.jpg) (http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/tt46/Robertfishes/66zebrabow.jpg) (http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/tt46/Robertfishes/66zebrariser.jpg) (http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/tt46/Robertfishes/66zebraunstrung.jpg)
That is a knockout job Robert!
I'd think the riser is about bulletproof!
Outstanding job on that one! I bet it does shoot nice.
Wow, great job bud!
That riser is dang nice. Well done!
Great looking bow!
Real nice looking bow!
Helen got to shoot her new bow Saturday, I shot it a few times last week and was very very happy with it..I'm a recurve guy but was drilling my deer target at 18 yards with the longbow.. we went to the Easton Newberry Olympic training Center Today where she shot it at 50 and 70 meters and so far she is also very happy with the bow..the 64" walnut and red elm bow I built her 1 1/2 years ago may get a little dusty on her bow rack.. both bows were built on the same kennym design 64" form. these pics were taken at the Bear Archery factory "proving grounds" range in Gaineville Florida (http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/tt46/Robertfishes/helenzebrabow.jpg) (http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/tt46/Robertfishes/helenzebrabow2.jpg)
Hey Robert,
Beautiful bend at full draw!Looks like it would draw 32" without stack!!
I notice a black band around her finger and thumb, is that a sling of some sort?
Doesn't look like it holds the bow in her hand.
Its a finger sling, its a target shooting thing for peace of mind..i grip and rip, she has form and style
