Title: Action Wood or Dyamond wood for handle blanks?
Post by: SEMO_HUNTER on August 27, 2011, 07:32:00 AM
Which would be better for a handle blank on a bamboo backed longbow, Action wood or Dyamond wood?
I have a link for the Dyamond wood turning products website but don't have one for the Action wood.
If anybody has a link to the company that makes Action wood I'd sure appreciate it. I'd like to try some as handle blanks for my longbows that I build.

Any advice or tips working with it, and links for the websites where I can get either of these laminated woods is much appreciated.

Thanks Jim, I googled rutland wood products and saw the dymondwood, but didn't see action wood?
You don't happen to have the link to the action wood do ya?
Or maybe I'm confused that they are 2 different types of laminates and they are really the same?
Somebody please correct me if I'm mistaken cause I've never used either one before, but I really love the way the risers look on bows with action wood.

I think both would do fine. If you want kind of a heavy handle then I would take Dymondwood. If not Actionwood will do very well to.

KennyM has some very nice Actionwood. Green Mountain Camo and  Desert Camo are my favorites.

Thanks Andy, yes I've been PM'ing back and forth with Kenny. He's looking to see if he has the size I'm looking for. I'd rather buy from a TG member than go outside the loop anyway and he's a Missouri boy just like me. We take care of our own, so it would be great to support a local Missouri fella.

Ok it's all starting to make sense now. I see Boyd's gunstocks is a big customer of theirs, and that doesn't suprise me cause I've been eyeballing their stocks for a long time but never made the connection to where or how they made that laminate until now.

Thanks for the link Mike. Too bad you have to buy at least 6 pieces to make an order.
That's why I'm waiting to see what Kenny has.

That desert camo should look awesome on a BBO, I can't wait to get started on it.

Thanks for everything Kenny, your a good man!

Chris I have gotten some action wood from Kenny and it is amazing stuff. I did a T/D recurve for a customer out of the charcoal gray that I posted on here. I am in the process of building another out of Green mountain camo it is looking real good.

Yep, got some coming from Kenny. He made me a deal I couldn't refuse and I can't wait to get started on it.

Just brought home 3 more big osage logs today so I'll have some stave seasoning through winter for next spring. I think I may have enough seasoned wood to get through winter and these handle blanks will give me a few nice projects to work on this winter.
