Sold a selfbow ($100.00) to a guy who wants to shoot aluminum arrows. He asked what size and I have no clue. The 70" osage self bow is about 65# at 28",,,, can anyone advise?
First one I've sold in years and would not have if my kids hadn't needed the money badly....
If it were me I would try 2016s first.
A fella at our club shoots those out of his self bow.You might have to play around with the length to get them to spine right.He draws 27" and I think he shoots a 29" arrow.
2018s may do it for you too.
Joe just save some time and sell hims some good cane or hard wood shafts to go with them. :)
It should be the same that your would shoot form any 65# bow but I don't remember what I uses to shoot.
I would suggest the 2018, also. But if he does draw the full 65lbs, may want to try 2117!
This is what I shoot out of my 55-60 lb. selfbows, when I do shoot alum. Mostly, for the extra weight for hunting.

I have never shot alum arrows from a selfbow but a good starting point would be 10# spine weight under the draw weight for a 28" arrow however that works out. I think I'd leave them long to begin with and reduce the length until I got good arrow flight.
2018s should do the trick.
I've shot 2018's through my 60# self bows. Mine were cut to 29" and I was using 250 grain points. If arrows are left a little longer as Pat suggests, you wouldn't need as much point weight.....Dan

I have 3 skinny aluminum composite arrows, that a guy gave me. they are the best lying arrows I have for a 55lb selfbow. I have no idea who makes them or what size they are the only problem I have found with them is they have glue on points that are hard to keep on. another good thing about them they are indestructible.
This testimony is from some one that considers anything other than wood shafts as almost sacrilege.
