Just wondering if walnut is a good wood for making a bow.The reason I am asking is I have a walnut tree that I have to cut down this fall that is approx. 12 inches around and the first 9 feet looks to be knot free. If any body would like this wood please let me know.
Thanks

I'm still new to trad archery and even newer to bow building, so I might not be your best source of information, but I have read that walnut is a good core wood. Using that information,I have just finished my second successful longbow and both bows have walnut cores. The wood I used was very straight grained and knot free.
Make sure the wood is well dried before using it.
Good luck.

Its good bow wood for certain. I would suggest getting it sooner than later. If you wait until fall the bark and cambium will be stuck doiwn again and peeling is a bugger.
