Title: painting my bow
Post by: stickbow24 on August 04, 2011, 12:14:00 PM
I have a fiberglass limb recurve that I just refinihse with Tru-oil not for looks but because the old finish was coming off and I wanted to protect the bow from the elements.  Now the limbs are way too shiney.  I need to dull them up.  I was thinking about spray painting the fronts of the limbs with a black spray paint that has a non shiney, dull finish.  I would assume this paint could scrape off very easily but if it accomplishes the goal of dulling up the bow, thats all I need.

Any other suggestions.

Thanks

A light spray of satin poly is what I use on all my bows that I use Tru-Oilo on and don't want a shiney finish.

0000 steel wool works on all my bows. I LOVE Tru Oil but hate the shine it leaves behind.

I've seen limb sleeves slipped over recurves. Usually made from camo fabric. Never tried'em though.

Stick, the steel wool should work. May have to use a little more pressure.

You can also rub over the finish with some string wax, beeswax, even crayons. Then after season clean up with some acetone, or even wd 40.

Want the shine back, put on another coat. That's why I like Formby's tung oil finish!
