Title: Synthetic Snakeskin
Post by: Blackie76 on July 20, 2011, 07:35:00 PM
I'm working on a red oak board bow backed with drywall tape.  I'd like to cover up the ugly backing with some snakeskin, but the real thing is a little out of my price range.  Can anyone point me in the direction of a site that sells synthetic skins?

+1 For Onestringer, great people, fast shipping, and honest prices can't beat that. I've had nothing but good satisfying experiences dealing with them. Best arrow wraps on the planet and though I haven't used the limbsations limb covers I would assume they are just as good.

You can also find snakeskin or other natural design fabrics that look real good under some poly.  Go to the fabric store and find something you like.  A yard is usually less than $10 and will do lots of bows  :)   Get something thin.

I have a set of Onestringer Limbsation canebrakes rattler and must say these are not a cheap sticker. They took a HD pic of the actual skin and did their magic by putting it on a synthetic. I blended the edge of the limbsation after trimming with 150 then 220 grit so it did not look like a sticker from the profile. turned out quiet nice IMO and will be offered as an option for those that dont want the added price of the real skin or in a state where the skin would be illegal.
