I am almost finished with my 1st bow. I just need to do the finish sanding. I am thinking about backing it with some camo canvas. Will this work as a backing?

Im not sure I got my tillering tree set up right. I measured down 6" from where the bow sits and then measured down to 28" inch by inch from there? Will the 6" mark from the platform be 1" or 6"? I hope that question makes sense.
most people measure draw from the back of the bow. so when you put your bow on the tree, zero will be the end of the shelf on the back side of the bow. AMO measures draw differently. your set up right now, what you have as 6 inches will actually be longer. it will be 6 plus the thickness of your riser. follow me? don
I think I follow. From where the back of the bow sits on the tinkering tree I measure from there down to 28"
Looking good for your first bow. Every one you build will teach you a little something.....soemtimes good.....sometimes bad.
Don't feel bad citycop I did the exact same thing a little while back. I had my tree measurements made the same as you, so my measurements were two inches longer than it was suppost to be, but it was an easy fix.
Very nice bow. Congratulations! Jawge
You know the back of the bow is the side away from you and the belly is facing you as you draw it. So on the tree it is facing up (unless your tree is on mounted to a wall).
Yeah I know the back faces away and that's where I measure from to get my draw weight.
Actual AMO draw length is 1.5 inches from the deepest part of the handle. I set mine up with the draw length zero measure 1.5 inches above the surface that the handle rests on. This works with straight or bulbous handles. With a deep cut recurve handle it may not sit all the way down on the holder.
1 3/4"
