Well, glued up a HBO. And as usual, I ended up with some issues toward the end of the power lam. I have no idea why I struggle with it.
Anyway. Can I fill in some small gaps with thin super glue or CA glue? Will it behave ok with the URAC?
Here are some pics

I think if you would take and work some more urac into those gaps, it'll take care of you problem BC. As you shape up you bow you'll get a very good idea of how well it worked. Or wait until you get 'er shaped and then fill the gaps. Either way I would use the urac........Art
I might try that Art. I think my mistake this time was I left my hickory a full 1/4" and it would bend to well at that spot.
i have read that the mix with urac is not all that critical( i weigh mine on the grain scale- to get it exact- so am not speaking from experience- just what i have read here).
and it can be mixed so that it is thinner and more runny- so that it woul fill the gap better.
see what all the others say.
wayne.
I get those little voids also BigC and they haven't caused me a problem as of yet. I touch em up with some CA glue and some of them get filed off as I shape the profile. I think it comes from over clamping too tightly when I try to get the two wood sufaces to bend together, then it leaves a little pocket on the edge when it dries because all the excess glue has squeezed out.
One way I've found to combat this is by looking for the areas that may end up a bit thin on glue and take some of the excess Urac that has oozed out of the glue up and I smear it over the edges of the thin areas. After it dries there's a solid glue line left behind. I honestly don't think those little edge voids are so much structural as the are cosmetic. Of course wrapping with saran wrap or other material before putting on the clamps would probably solve the problem all together?
Everyone gets these voids occasionally on a glue-up, a drop of super glue will fill the void and you will forget where they were.
Thanks guys. I will put some CA glue in and fix it up.
Hey semi. What would saran wrap do? Just hold it in place for a while?
Shrink wrap is a great tool to hold your lamanations in place after glue up and during clamp up. It also keeps the excess glue off your forms and holds glue in where you need it.
ONe thing I learned with URAC. Messy. Fortunately I masked taped my form and anything not glued up.
If not, I would be in trouble.
I will have to try the saran wrap thing.
I have seen folks use it for wood bows using smoothon, but thought it was more to keep the wood from drying out too much.
