Okay I am ready to make the laminates for the first longbow .Here is where we are aiming for ,64"to60" Longbow 50# the riser is 16" going with .50 clear glass lam are 2 curly malpe and one bambo Question How thick to make the laminations.(they will have a .1 taper )and would 4 Lams be better then 3
decide how long first, then go to binghams website and see chart. If you go 64" .004 taper would work, although Id only use .003. If the bow was 60" Id use .002 or .oo1. good luck and have fun. Mark
Okay let try this starting at center of bow working to tips. 3 laminates one is parallel and to taper .01 62"bow
.50 clear glass 50
the Parallel thickness ?
1st taper thickness ?
2nd taper thickness ?
.50 clear glass 50
tolal =
Binghams says .340 total for 62" 50#
.050 glass
.080 par
.080 taper
.080 taper
.050 glass
I think they use a 18" riser for there standard and a shorter riser will bring weight down. Id go with .085 on all wood lams and you should be very close. The design will have an affect on poundage so this wont be exact.
remember when laying up,i think binghams like to use a reverse taper- so one of those tapers is flipped end for end,
so check that out first!!
also try kenny-m, his bows have ane awesome rep- you can buy patterns and "recipe" he also sells lams etc.
and now has a three piece t/d longbow!!!
Hi JT,
My 62" d/r takes for 50@28 with 18" riser and .003" total taper-
2 ----- .040 glass
2------ .040 parallels
1------ .070 taper (.001)
1------ .125 taper (.002)
For a total of .355
Binghams uses a different taper arrangement so their stack would be different.
Make your lams that run up the belly ramps thin enuff to bend easily enuff to get good glue lines in the curves.
Good luck!
Kenny,Do you leave your bows a full 1 1/2"wide ?
On the 62/64, I usually end up 1 7/16, but on the 58/60, I like 1 3/8 because it just looks better to me.
