Title: what size grit for final sanding & auto 2pack clear finish??
Post by: ozy clint on June 07, 2011, 12:42:00 AM
i'm in the process of refinishing a set of takedown recurve limbs of mine. i just finished stripping one limb down to the glass and wood. what size grit do you guys do the final sand with on a glass bow?
also i'd like to use thunderbird for the finish but i can't get it here in oz. i'm considering using a 2pack auto clear. anyone finished a bow with it? a few bowyers here use it apparently. i need something tough and chemical resistant. i put self adhesive velcro on the bow for the shelf and strike plate and in the string grooves. when i need to replace it the only thing i've found that will remove the residue is acetone. nasty stuff on most finishes but it doesn't harm the original fullerplast.

i've done a bit of research here and found a company who makes a 2pack clear they say is very high quality and resistant to acetone. just got to find out if it will be flexible enough for the limbs.

thanks for any help.

I sand mine to 400 grit, my preference.....
