Getting ready to start a HBO. I was wanting to put some contrast in the handle. So I was planning on a IPE power lam, and 1/8" IPE lam between osage core and osage handle.
Whatcha think? Can't decide.
Ipe would look great, but if it were my bow, I'd put some Walnut in there.....

Don't know what the entire limb thickness will be but it sounds like it will come out really heavy with 1/8" Ipe in the middle plus the other woods also?
From what I've read Ipe really likes being on the belly, but I haven't gotten a chance to work with mine yet. I gotta get my swap bow done first before I get to play anymore.
Up next will be a BBI or a OBI, haven't decided which one will be first yet.
semi, just talking power lam, not the entire length. Just 1" past each fade tapering. Mainly for looks but to stiffen the handle section.
Ahh....I see, sorry about the confusion Big.
I had a different mental picture.
PZee, I have some walnut lams I ordered from 3R last summer. I was wondering how they would look and work out between a hickory backing and an osage belly. What you suggested makes me feel like I should have done just that. Maybe my next bow.
Big, sounds like a plan to me.

Ipe will definitely add contrast if thats what you're lookin for. Dont think I've ever seen it glued between osage and hickory, should look good though.
Thanks Okie, well see.
I thought I would hate an osage handle on an IPE bow, and saw a fella do it, and it looked awesome. Figured why not the other way around.
Big, I put an osage handle on my hickory bow that looked pretty good. Also had osage tip overlays. Added just enough contrast.

Hi Stan,
Please don't take what I said as definate.... I don't really have a good eye for these things! I've been known to wear purple trousers, a green shirt with an orange jacket.......... :p :)
Walnut is about as dark as Ipe, so it probably wouldn't make a difference really. And Ipe is heavier, so it would give some weight to the riser. Not much but some extra....
Big please don't take what I said as a negative remark, I'e got a thing for walnut at the moment.
Please post some pics of it when it's done, and remember, paper thin fades.......
