OHHHHHhhhhh. i like that. that is an awesome looking bow you got there. how did you do your tips like that? please explain. that handle shape is nice too. hell, the whole thing is nice. don
oh yeah, how about pics of it's unstrung profile. don
picks are as nice asa the bow-----GREAT WORK.
Hard Head
Beautiful bow!!!! What did you use for stain, I really like the color on it.
Oh yeah, don't let that cherry log go to waste...Dan
The wood at the tip is simply ground off flat on a sander, then a piece of horn is glued on in it's place. Ya just have to be mindful of the angles.
I used alcohol aniline dye.
Yup, thats what they are supposed to like alright! Very nice bow. Where is the "money shot"? Lets see that baby bent to 28".
I don't have a full draw picture of it finished. I'll try to get one tomorrow. Gotta run, workin' the graveyard shift tonight.
Wow! That is absolutely gorgeous.
Great bow, Bowjunkie.
Stan
great looking bow, and all the green is wonderful too.
beautiful bow but don't you think that brace height is excessive?
The bow would be faster with a lower brace height too. Less stressed and could possibly be drawn further with no increase in set.
Very nice Jeff..
Aznboi, the brace height is 6 1/4". I wouldn't call that excessive. It's just barely enough to keep the feathers off the shelf. The bow itself is really quite petite, so perhaps that and the pictures somehow make it look higher than it is. How high would you have guessed it at?
Outstanding!
That is gorgeous
Sweet!!
Awesome... Truly beautiful... Great work
Beautifimus!!! :clapper: :clapper: :clapper:
:archer2:
Very nice. Love the black and red colors together, and that's my favorite R/D design right there. Looks PDQ? Does it hammer em in there pretty good?
Thanks guys.
Yep Semo, I shoot heavy hickory arrows, but it puts plenty of mustard behind em.
bowjunkie, that is impressive finish work, and a beatiful bow. your bow is eerily similar to a bow I made for my wife a few years ago. red and black dye, horn overlays, D/R style with bulbuous handle. if I get time today and can figure it out, I'll try and post up some pics of that bow. pretty spooky.
don't want to hijack your thread, but here are a few pics of "Devils Advocate"

bow is one part of a unique ensemble, which has a bit of a story behind it, and which I won't bore you with. quiver and armguard made by Dave Huff of Huff Custom Leathers and arrows made by Brian Patterson, who does as fine of cresting and finish work as I've seen.
awesome bow, bowjunkie, what did you glue the horn tips on with.
and what do you mean by" being mindful of the angles"
thanks
wayne
Nice bow, Jamie. They do look very similar, don't they. What are the specs on her? Don't worry, you won't bore me with any sort of bow talk or stories of what inspired you :)
fujimo, I glued the horn to the wood with Smooth On epoxy.
You've got to be sure to grind the limb off to the exact distance and at the proper angle so that you get as much horn at the tip as you want. I like the whole top to be of horn, or at least down onto the belly side where the string loop no longer touches, so I grind my angle a bit steeper than some. You can grind them at any angle you prefer, some folks put the horn more on top of the tip as an overlay, some grind at such an angle that the their tips are half horn and half wood. It's personal preference as far as that goes, but you should have a way to exactly duplicate the angle on the second limb tip. Whichever way you decide, you need to grind at such an angle that your nock-to-nock length is what it's supposed to be WITH the amount of horn 'overlay' revealed(to the handle side of the string groove) that you want, AND so that the horn tip isn't leaning to one side when viewed from the end.
It's not that hard with a little pre-thought and attention to detail during the grinding. Just gotta go slow and be careful.
DAMN!!
That's Nice!
Jeff, that is a great looking bow. I especially like the tip overlays.
Beautiful bow, the only problem is that you put the arrow rest on the wrong side.lol!
Both bows are very nice. Now let's see the full draw pics!
These next level bows amaze me. I usually build and seal. But staining and different contrasts, is advance building. Nice job.
Both bows look great. They could be sisters.
Nice sticks boys!!!!
