Shaping my first and was wondering how steep of an arc to shape the arrow rest/cutout.
Anybody?
Pretty much how you like it, you will have a rest on there anyway. The old Bears had a flat shelf and shot great.
I go a little over 1/8" I would guess.
Probably every one of mine are different! LOL
I use a one gallon paint can for a template, comes out to about 1/4" tall.
Thanks gentlemen.
You could use a small French Curve, it would be easy to position the highest point of the shelf just above the pivot point. Bue--.
What Buemaker said is an often forgotten tip to tuning the bow. Written about in the Book Hunting the Hard Way by Howard Hill. The pivot point which is usually the deepest part of the grip is where you want that arc to be highest.
I usually shape mine with a rasp and file, but end up with about 1/4 inch cause I get tired of filing....
If the arc is over the pivot, it sure makes a sweet shooter.
Good Luck
Thanks Bue and Mike. I wasnt sure about the "pivot point" Now it makes sense. So it will be among the last things done, right?
