I've had this idea for a tattoo for awhile and I finially tried it. I really wanted to leave the stickers on and let it get super dark, but I couldn't wait to ship it off and I wanted to see what it looked like. It turned out as good as I could have hoped for.
What a beautiful bow.
You will have to explain how you did that tattoo. If you don't mind.
Outstanding David!
The tattoo was as simple as finishing the bow and putting on some stickers. Then a few trips out in the sun, a few trips to a tanning bed, and a bunch of hours under a grow light to darken the bow naturally.
It's osage with zebrawood tip and handle overlays. 58in. ntn. 1 1/4 limbs to midlimb tapering to 3/8 knocks. 51@26.

Nice job. The zebrawood looks good
Nice job Dave, I like the tattoo idea. Will the lighter area darken in over time or will it retain that lighter color after the finish is applied? That opens up so many neat ideas I may borrow it sometime if you don't mind.
Very Cool, I'm sure the recipient will be pleased and if not you can send her on down to me. :notworthy:
Wow, excellent bow and great idea!
That may be the coolest thing I have ever seen! If only it worked on white woods.
Very nice job...really cool idea with the tatoo
Very cool, Dave.
That tattoo is awesome. Did you end up redoing the grip as well?
thanks everyone. This is probably one of my favorites which is why I have to send it off before I concoct a way to keep it.
Looks great Dave. Keep makin' em like that and I'll have to stop buying staves from you and just buy bows.
Looks great love the tattoo idea
goose- I left the grip like it was because I started liking the two toned leather that was on it because it matched the two toned zebrawood really well.
Jeff- I tell you all my secrets so you can just build your own now. You are alreadt ahead of where I was at your stage of the game.
Awesome Dave!!! Love the tattoo. Wonder what it will look like in a few years? do you think the lighter lettering will catch up to the rest of it as it ages?
I'm not sure chris, but from what I have seen the two tones will darken together but always keep their difference.
Good to know that Dave I might borrow your idea. Send me your phone # in a PM and I will give you a shout next week.
Beautiful. Great work
That kinda makes sense because you already darkened everything else on the bow around it, so maybe it will always show contrast no matter what age it is.
Awsome job, you make some great bows and whether you know it or not, you have had a huge influence on how I build my own bows.
sweet bow and very cool tattoo idea.
Looks great. And it can work on white wood too. Apply a slight stain or just put several coats of finish then take off the sticker. i would think the difference in layers of finish would always show.
Swwwwweet!
Great idea and very impressive bow, DVS! That would create a pretty good camo on the back of a bow, I would think.
Stan :clapper:
sticks- I'll send ya a pm.
semo- thanks alot. I'm glad I can help. Feel free to use it, just be sure and show me when you do!
stan- the idea started with camo. Use leaf paterns and lines that you could remove over time to have different shades. I've wanted to use it to sign my bows with dvs in stickers and ship them out with the stickers on. The longer they are on the cooler it would look I think.

Very creative, most guys wouldn't share their secrets with the masses, but that just shows what kind of true character you have.
Thank You.
DVS think I could snag a copy of the pm for how this tattoo is done.... SUPER COOL!!! :notworthy:
the tattoo was simple, it just takes time. After I finished the bow, I put on a few coats of shellac for a finish. The found some stickers that had the font letters and size I was looking for. Then I put on the leters and left them for as long as I could wait. Then pull em off and you're done. It's that easy.
Great bow!!! See ya at the tennesse clasic!
Never thought of the tatoo. What a brainstorm!
I think you can do a whole "camoflage" pattern as a tattoo. Would give a great effect having all natural wood but still a camo feel to it too.
That is a cool idea! Simple things always turn out better IMO.
You want to bring what here...Click.........
Great job Dave!
Maybe someday I'll talk you into making something that nice for me...lol
God bless,Mudd
PS: Keep making that yaller dust my friend.
very cool! I like your idea, very creative.
