Title: ASH Self bow
Post by: JSMOFFITT03 on April 22, 2011, 07:52:00 AM
Would ash work for a self bow?  I have some strait grained pieces that I was thinking of using...  Just wanted to see if anyone else has used it and at what sucess has anyone had...

Ash works just dandy, make it at least 1 3/4" wide most of the legnth tapering to 1/2" tips the last 8-10". 68" would be good length if your draw isnt over 28" or so. Our Ash is ALL dying fast from the bores. Most of its gone already, or on its way. I wish I would have cut some a few years ago when they warned us about it.

I've made bows from green ash and they turned out ok. I think white ash is better but I have never used it so I couldnt say for sure.
