Title: new bandsaw reveiw
Post by: Stiks-n-Strings on April 10, 2011, 01:08:00 AM
Bought me a new rikon 10" bandsaw today. I can run anywhere from 1/8" to 1/2" blade on it.

Pretty good built little band saw for the money. 250$

I roughed out five osage staves today in the amount of time it normally takes me to do 1 with hand tools. I figured I would put it to the test on the osage and it handled it very well. I was thinking about a 14" saw and found this at wood craft and decided to go with it on account of space. all in all a very good saw for the purpose intended and I should be a bow making fool now.

   :bigsmyl:
Oh yeah I bought the timberwolf blades and they seem to be great as well.

Stiks

That sounds cheap enough to me. Never heard of that brand, where did you get it at? I've always used a tablesaw but have been thinkin bout gettin a bandsaw.

Lowes carries a Porter Cable 14" bandsaw that seems pretty good to me for the price. I am not a big fan of Porter Cable tools to be honest...as a lot of them are lacking in quality (long term reliability) but their bandsaw seems pretty good to me. I think it is around $300...but I forgot the exact price.

I use a lot of Rigid tools I use there planer, bandsaw, drill press and sanders. They are affordable have lifetime warranties for the knuckle heads like me out there. The Planer is a must for bow backings this thing is awesome.

Here's  link with a pic and some reviews.

I really like this saw and would recommend it for someone who is limited on space or funds

Bona, I'm a fool alright LOL now I can add bowmaking to the title. This little saw will save me five or six hours on a bow and open the possibility of experimenting with some wood lam bows.    :goldtooth:
