Title: Cherokee bow paint schemes?
Post by: razorsharptokill on April 09, 2011, 01:35:00 PM
Any examples of how the Cherokee may have painted their bows? I'm building a rawhide backed Osage bow and would like to paint it in the traditional cherokee colors of Red, Black, White, Blue, and sometimes Yellow. This bow will be a gift in memory to my buddy who just lost his mother. She was Cherokee.

I will have to check my resource books. It seems the Eastern Woodlands Indians didn't paint thier bows too often that I recall.

I couldn't find any cherokee bows with paint but there are several from other neighboring tribes that painted some bows. If you can get your hands on a copy of "Native American Bows, Arrows and Quivers" by Hamm and Allely they give lots of good examples.
