Just checking to see who on the Bowyer's Bench is going to the Tennessee Classic this year at Twin Oaks.Sence we build bows there I figured this was the proper place for this post.
I'll be there. It will be my 5 year. As far as I am concerned this is an event not to miss and especially if you like to build or want to learn how to build wood bows.
Scott, when is it?
I'm going to try my hardest to get up there. I just have a bunch of crazy stuff going on so I will not know till a few days ahead of time if I can get up there.
A few days ago I was watching YouTube videos of the bow building going on there, looked real good. Do you know if they have a forge set up?
How soon do people start showing up? Does anyone stay for a week like they do in Michigan?
I'm going to try and make it. It all depends on work. I might not get there untilFriday night or early saturday morning.
I plan on being there from about the 26th through to the 2nd. hope to see you all there.

Information on the Tennessee classic can be found under Trad events.
I'll be going up on the 25th with Malcolm Parker and Bud Kent and plan on staying all week.....Can't wait and would like to put more faces with handles from here!
I'm going. Already got a hotel room booked. I'll be there Friday evening until Sunday. I'm going to bring some staves to trade if anyone is interested. Hickory and osage. I am looking for straight cane shafts, a good scraper, or about anything else.
I'll be there at least on the last sunday, hopefully late friday night.

The official dates for the Classic are April 29th,30th and May 1st. There will be folks there from Friday Apr. 22 on.
Scrub buster, you will be missing out on half the fun by staying in a motel. Plenty of camping room and that is free.
I'll be getting there about mid day on Thursday the 28th.
If I only had a camper Pat. I thought about using a tent, but I don't think they float.
I was in a tent last year (14" in 2 days) and the only water that got in was where I left the flap unzipped.
If it was just me I would probably try it. My son will be with me and I don't feel like hearing him complain for two days. I had already decided if he wasn't going, I would just sleep in my truck.
Just figured out I have a date/schedule conflict so will not be there. Felt so bad I had to call Three Rivers and order some stuff. Hope you guys make some bow making videos while your there, looking forward to pictures too!
As of now I plan on being there just depends on gas. Want to meet some of you on here don't run into many bowyers... If I do get to come I'll have some rock would like to get some knappin tools...

That is a lot of rain Pat in 2 days.
I would love to go to this. What part of TN is it in? and do I have to reserve a spot to throw up a tent
StoneAK, The Classic is about 30 miles north of Nashville, near Clarksville, TN.
Roy, that was the storm that flooded Nashville last spring.
DLH, I promise you'll get gas if you eat all that is offered you!
I plan on bringing one of them tent hammocks. Throw it up quick and get to minglin :bigsmyl:
Hey Scrub....how many cane shafts would you need for a nice fat ringed osage stave? Let me know and I'll go cut you some today and have em for you at the Classic....
Wish I could go. Are there any type of events similar to this in the N. East? (NY specifically)
I'm so excited about attending for the first time this year.
I feel like a kid before Christmas.
I have signed up for David Knight's bamboo backed ipe bow class. The pics I've seen coming out of that class are amazing.
Hope to meet a lot of you guys there. My wife is going to Nashville to see her sister and I am going to jump out of the car at Clarksville. I will be the guy with all the stratches and bruises.
i am planning on going.i want to go on the 28th or 29th.if anyone that lives by me in ohio and wants to share the gas,let me know.i live between cincy and dayton.see you guys there, steve
I'm thanking about going if I could find someone close to upstate southern NY or Northern PA that would care to share ex ect. Any one interested shoot me a PM :wavey:
I am getting some cash together so I really look forward to seeing you guys out there.
Pat B, Kerryb, looking forward to seeing yall again at the Classic- and all others posted here that are going for the first time... I remember first pulling up last year, walking around the compound meeting people, smelling the woodsmoke and hearing wood rasps from small huddles of men in all directions filing staves. For some reason, I got the sense of some kind of civil war encampment down in a wooded Tennessee hollow- men passing time working on their weapons before tomorrows battle. I thought... these guys are just like me!
I'll have a small booth showing the StavePress- drop by and see me.
Jon Warwick
Jon, I remember seeing your Stave Press, and you I guess, at the Classic last year. I'll come introduce myself this year.
I get such a good feeling seeing all the wood bow building going on and try to help all that I can. I spend most of my time there under the bow building shed.
Going to the Classic makes me feel like the long lost brother that is coming home. The Twin Oaks guys are like family to me and this will only be my 5th year attending(out of 15).
Yeah Kerryb,
I'll have a special price for the Classic- and of course if you buy it in person you save a big percentage because shipping for a 27 pound StavePress averages about $21.00
See you there- I might be interested in getting a stave from you.
Jon
I'll be there my 2nd year can't wait,,I can't decide on building a Knight bow which are super nice or osage bow of Gray Davis which I haven't done a stave yet and Gary Davis is a great teacher,in fact there will be alot of great teachers there. My wife wants to learn knapping,I have a lot of johnstone for anyone wanting to give it a try,and I have some stainless steel sinks that i'll be glad to bring for anyone wanting to make a forge.
Rover, the knapping pit is open to all and all are welcome. They enlarged it for this year too so more room. There will be some excellent knappers there and most will help your wife get started. Knappers are almost as nice as bowyers are! d;^) They will probably have the johnstone championships again this year.
It would be cool if we could all meet at say the range at a certin time over the week end.It would be great to meet each other in person and put a face to the name off of the bench.Any suggestions?
Pat B I'll have 4 or 5 lids of the johnstone, scottm that would be cool or if we could t-shirts made with are tag name and a group picture to post here would be cool.
No joke on the t-shirts thing. Nobody would recgonize my tag name I don't post enough but i would recgonize a lot from on here. It will be nice to get a face to put with some of the names on here. I'll be there early friday morn. I also am signed up for David Knights boo backed ipe class. This is going to be my third year. I just hope we don't have to build an ark to get home this year. Last year was nuts but shot the range anyway and still had a blast. Hope to meet everybody up there I can. If anybody hasen't been up there yet I strongly suggest you go if any way possible you won't regret it.
Looks like I'll be working that saturday but I'm heading in as soon as I get out of the mine. Probably make it there saturday evening and spend the day sunday.
I'll have a TGMM shirt on.
I may be helping David Knight with his bow class but I will definately spend most of my time around the bow building area help out there. I'm pretty easy to spot, too! 5'8" tall bald headed, full beard(with PA cap on), blue jeans and T shirt...now that is during daylight hours. After dark I turn into a werewolf!
