this is my first glass bow- a 50#, 68" RD long bow from binghams.
i really didnt like the shape of their riser pattern, so i made some changes- angles and shelf etc all stay the same.
so my question is,
do these thicknesses and measurements look sufficient for the bow.
the riser will be 1.5" wide.
constructed from walnut actionwood, with maybe three phenolic inserts.

I think it will be fine. I always put at least one layer of glass on the back of my risers, adds quite a bit of strength.

i will be using those blind inserts, that bolt through from the belly side, so besides the 3 phenolic strips, there will be a phenolic strip and a cover lam of brown glass on the back to hide the blind inserts.

Looks like you could cut your arrow pass/sight window in much closer to center, especially if you reinforce the riser with glass or phenolic
in fact K30 i would like to get as close to center as i can.
i didnt spend too much time on the scrap 2x4 i had lying around. so the riser above is actually thicker than 1.5" .
so the sight window appears further from center than it actually is.
but do you think i will safely be able to get to center?
is it sensible to try and go past center at all, to help with shaft selection.

I'm far from the most knowledgable guy on here, but unless you are planning a real heavy bow, you should be able to cut at least to center with some reinforcement in that riser. Dymondwood is also much stronger than actionwood with a similar look. If this is a light poundage bow you will have much more freedom in cutting the window deeper.

You shouldn't have a problem cutting it to center. I changed the riser on that bow too (looks kind of like what you are planning)and reinforced it with glass accents.

what are your specs.
is it noisy, quite, accurate, forgiving, fast??
This is a good design- quite, accurate, forgiving and plenty fast. The specs on this one 55#@ 28" 62"ntn. I gave it to a buddy of mine about 4 years ago and he has shot the heck out of it (he loves it too).
