Title: no shelf recurve
Post by: burch on March 31, 2011, 06:13:00 PM
I hope i`m in the right forum. It`s been a while since i`ve been here and i`m glad to be back. I sold my compound and decided to go back to my traditional bows. I have a recurve I found and cleaned up and it seems to be shooting pretty good so far. I was wanting to add a rest and needed some opinions. It has no shelf and i`ve been shooting it off my knuckle. It`s a simple wood bow with some kind of laminated facing and a soft leather wrap on the handle. I`d like to strip it down and refinish it but i`m not sure if I should or not. It`ll look a lot better refinished. Anyhow, please help me figure out what kind of rest I should go with and many thanks to all.

Pictures my friend. Sounds like you could have a real jewel.

Yep, pictures would help the guys answer your questions.

As for a rest, your knuckle is as good as any, maybe better.

Any suggestions on a refinish job ? I could probably just do a good sanding with some 400 grit but what should I use on the wood for a finish. The laminate will probably have to be painted. Someone did a pretty good camo job on the front & back of the limbs but it doesn`t look very traditional.

Here are a few of mine. All have bulbous handles and floppy rests.

This bow is set up to be shot with either limb up.

This is the trade bow I recently sent to Kodiac Kid...
