anyone ever thought of making a bow out of an old snow ski. i know its crazy but i am always thinking about different material to make bows out of and it occured to me that in an emergency a bow could be fasioned out of a ski. i know its crazy any thoughts
Your crazy.........get back to work on that hickory bow.
yeah you are right pearl. just random thoughts
Random thoughts are what makes new concepts come to life, they are a good thing!................but your still crazy Aric!
i dont know why i thought of it but hey wood core flexible who knows maybe someone will try it. and yeah i might be crazy or just obsessed
I tried tillering a hockey stick once. It had laminated hardwood core and glass layers outside so I thought it might fly. I was wrong. De-laminated instantly. But it was worth the experiment. I'd try an old ski if I found one.
CJ
i would try it i think if i found an old one. i can just see someone out in the garage cutting up like a 600 dollar pair lol
i have seen it done, somewhere on the net- would need to look!!
if i remember, they come out a little light, but still good.
i have also seen the swedish bows that double as ski poles- those crazy vikings!!
just google "bow made from ski".
i didnt really like the angles on the takedown recurve- but you guys check it out- cool idea!!
post a build-a-long
wow i didnt know anyone atually made one but i did google it and its a pretty cool bow. he didnt say what poundage he was able to get out of it but it looked ok.
i found a video of the guy on youtube shooting the bow it is 40# @30in
well thats better than i expected- geuss you could just go a tad wider- if more poundage was wanted
The skis vintage '60's would often be made of many multiples of laminated wood. Not just flats on flats the way we build a glass lam bow, but the lams varied a lot in thickness and width. One of those would probably make a great bow! Avoid the Head and Hart brand from that era. They were coming out with glass and metal composites at that time. Only brand I ever disected was an old Northland ski from around 1957. It was lammed out of all wood and probably would have made a great bow!
Now you got me going! I don't have time for another nutty idea!!
But... what if you cut it just to one side of the groove in the bottom and then square off the outside edge, you'd have a blank to start with. Steel edges will be screwed on. They gotta go. It might have some kind of composite surface on the bottom and that gotta go too.
Ya gave me something new to shop for at the garage sales!
Not sure if you can make a bow out of an old ski but I have plans to make cross country ski's using my bow form.
that sounds cool 7lakes.
show us what ya got!!
How about an all wood water ski. Could rip it down, splice in the handle and have the ends already flipped.
I have an old pair of LL Bean kids cross country skis that I have been looking at for a couple of years. I could probably make a cool takedown out of them. I had considered trying a crossbow out of them but that would be wrong !!!
