this is my takedown recurve. i made it back in 2002. the plans are from binghams. it's 60" 50#@28". limbs are super action wood in green mountain camo as well as the riser. i did not add the skins until a few years later. it won the bow category in 3 rivers archery customer appreciation contest. when 3 rivers called me i thought someone was playing a joke on me. i don't have any full draw pics right now. when the weather gets a little better i'll get outside and have my wife take some. until then, what do you all think? thanks, i only did the one recurve. i had plans to make more. unfortunatly, my shed burned to the ground and i lost my forms, oven, drill press, bandsaw and sander as well as other hand and power tools for bow making. plus things such as lawn mower, snow blower, camping gear and tree stands. the insurance covered contents but not the building. we used most of the money to put up a new shed and get a few basic nesessities ie. lawn mower and snow blower. now i am on social security disability and will never be able to get back where i was. so, i concentrate on board bows which is fine for me. i was able to sell a set of micrometers from when i was working and used the money for a used 12" bandsaw. so i am happy. you gotta be alive to complain is my favorite saying.

i should also add how the skins were applied since it comes up from time to time. they were a matched pair of dried skins. i soaked them briefly in warm water to soften them up. then i patted them dry with a towel. this was a few years back so the glue used was tite bond II which i applied to the back of the bow. i then applied the skins to the bow and slid them into place and worked out any air bubbles and squeegeed out extra glue, making sure the skins were nice and flat to the limbs. i cut excess skin off using scissors but still left a little bit to allow for shrinkage i wrapped with an ace bandage and left it over night. when dry i trimmed off the remaining excess skin with a razor blade. then i used a lint remover roller and ran it back and forth on the skins to get the scales off. you can use masking tape or duct tape to do this. i just used the lint remover because thats what i had. then, i sealed the skins with 7 coats of super thin fast drying ca glue i got from a local hobby shop. then finished with 2 or 3 coats of minwax helmsman spar urethane. i have had no problems with cracking, discoloring or lifting of the skins and it's been a few years since they were applied.
