I have finally produced a shooting bow from a board. I used a 1x3 red oak board in a slimmed down version of 4est terkker's bow design. I backed it with paper and used cherry for the handle section. It's not perfect but it's a starting piont. I made a bad cut on the handle section but I think I salvage it. The tillering look good until I strung it the frist time. I think I tillerd too long with the long string because one limb was much stronger. I still have to shape the handle and some final finishes but I' happy with it. Thanks for all the help and insperation from everyone on the Bowyer's Bench. I'm having problems loading pic's,this one's blury but it's the only one I have. Your darn close man, get the lower limbs bending a pinch more and your in there.
I think you need to get more bend near the fades on both limbs, otherwise looking real good.
Not bad for your "Frist" Haha. I'd give a few scrapes to the upper limb right above the fade. It looks a bit stiff there. Welcome to the addiction.
Looks like you about have it. Congratulations!
Looking good...make your self a tiller gizmo to help you finish
Nice job! It's a shooter, that's what counts!
Besides that you are able to show it off to the world for all to critique! Lot of us can't say the same.
Just over 20 years ago, built my first osage, pretty whip ended, but a shooter. I was very proud! And I killed a doe with it in the Fall.
Bet ya can't wait to build another one, hum? :D
way to go, I think like redtailed hawk, but if its at your weight and shoots good, keep it the way it is. some guys like a long stiff handle.
good to have a shooter.
fades look just a tad stiff...on to the next!!!
it does get a lil addicting after ur first one shoots
Thanks everyone. I plan on finishing it up in the next day or so but I already to start another one.
