Title: recurve limb shapes?
Post by: T L on February 20, 2011, 08:16:00 PM
I am building a laminated recurve bow. I have made longbows in the past but this is my first recurve. I notice the limb shape for a recurve is cut out much differently than the longbow. I am not sure how to cut the limb shape on recurve? any help is much appreciated!

Do you mean like a pattern or plan that you can lay out for your form? Kinda like a blueprint?

Me too, I'd also like to know. I'm sure somebody could trace their form or still has the original blueprint that they might share a copy with us.
If you find some, please remember me.

If you have access to another recurve, you can trace the limb for a pattern. Also, do a search for recurve limb, and I believe there are some patterns on this site.

Yes, you can buy binghams blueprints for like 6 bucks.

Binghams is always a good source. If you want to do your own thing, search for the build alongs of Brad Jansen ( bjansen ), he has done some fantastic recurves in various lengths, that will give you plenty of inspiration. On my website you also can download a form that might give you some ideas.

Check the download section.

That's what I did to get the recurve radius to flip the tips on my Osage selfbows, I traced the last 10" or so of my Bear Grizzly. Then I just adjust the length I want to flip from the end of the tip, deeper it goes into the jig the more flip, shallower means less flip.

I have looked on Binghams for just the plans or blueprints and couldn't find where you could just buy the plans?? Could somebody post a link to it?
I'd also really be interested in the plans to make a full length R/D longbow form, that would be most awesome.
Thanks for any help.
