Title: Snakey Bows
Post by: perry f. on February 11, 2011, 11:05:00 PM
I'm just getting into making bows. I've made a few boad bows and one self bow. I am really intrigued with the snakey self bows. I'd like to have one but at this stage I don't think I'm ready to tackle it. Do any of you make them, and if so, what is the price? looking in the 45-50# @ 27". Thanks!

If you have access to osage and you cut and split enough youre goin to find some snakey stuff you could work yourself. Its really not that much harder than a straight stave.

What part of IN are you in? I Live in Pike county.

Yes, I do and have been since '89. But I don't sell them. This is my hobby. You'll get plenty of help on here. My site may also help. Jawge

Thanks for the encouragement. Stiks-n-strings, I live in Crawford County. Leavenworth is the name of the town. My dad used to work at the coal mine beside Pike County school. He also started the horse training facility east of arthur junction on hwy 64 with a couple buddies. It used to be Barn 3, but now it's called The Yellow Rose or something like that.

I know exactly what horse barn and mine your talking about. A new mine is going in there and is going underground. I'm an underground coalminer and plan on going there when it opens.

We'll have to get together sometime and make some yeller shavings. I;m like most guys here, don't sell bows but I would be more than happy to help you build one. Might even have a good stave for the project.

I appreciate it. My Cousin is a mechanic that works for Solar Coal Mine. You may know him. I believe they bought the mine my dad used to work at. I know several people from that area, haven't talked to most in awhile but we probably know some of the same people. I'd love help on making a snakey bow. That's very generous of you. My spare time isn't much, but you name the time and place and I'll try to be there. Thanks Again.

Perry,

I have some osage bow blanks for sale including this one that would work perfect for you.

Snaky Bow Blank - $130 (includes shipping) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7PONMgGDCA)  I could get the tiller started for you so you'd have a head start.  Free consulting too  :)

If that doesn't suit you, I have others.

Perry if you got the money John's deal would be hard to pass up. He builds a pretty good bow and knows a little bit about it.   :wavey:  Hi John.

Thanks for the offer John. I may take you up on that. I am currently working on my first glass bow. Just put it in the oven. I have a couple staves here, but the first stave bow I done I felt like I was lost the whole time. I've read several books but I'm more of a hands on type of guy. I may find the time to play with these staves I have here and if I build my confidence perhaps I may purchase that snakey stave.
