Title: Jet brand plainer/jointer
Post by: razorsharptokill on February 11, 2011, 08:56:00 PM
Woodcraft has these on sale for $299.99. Regularly $469.00. I think it is going to be fine for bow building.

Grab it! Thats a better deal than I got on my off brand. Mine runs great, and seems fine so far. Jet is a good name for that kind of money.

Only thing I dont like is the switch. Seems like there might be a short. I think this is going to be great for flattening bamboo! Two tools in one! I was originally just going to buy a planer. Lowes was only carrying the DeWalt.

I was there looking at that same machine a month ago and didnt have the $469, so I went with the Menards brand. Its a good machine, but Dewalt is Dewalt. You can always wire a new heavy duty switch in, thats easy enough to do.

That's a good price.  They are good for more than just bow building too!

Well I hope this isnt an omen! Went to use it this a.m. and the  switch fell out in my hand. it looks like it was damged during assembly at the factory.

Switches are cheap and easy to install.

Yeah but a brand new product should not be in that condition.

I've owned quite a few Cinese machines including Jet.I have gotten rid of all of them and will never have any again.Thier typ. problems are ;wont hold adjustments, unstable(warping)castings, cheap bearings, bad motors and bad electrical componants.
You will be better off checking classified adds in your area and getting good American made machines that are used. There are alot of cab. shops selling things off

Got the new switch put in. Used planer to flatten some boo. Seems to work great. A lot faster than reducing on bandsaw.

Earlier post should have read "joiner" to flatten boo.

To use joiner you just raise the planer table all the way up and mount the vacuum attachment underneath joinr table. To use planer, you mount vacuum attachment to the joiner table.
