Title: String Overlays on belly
Post by: RayMO on February 10, 2011, 10:08:00 AM
My son is gluing up a TD recurve and thinking about adding an overlay on the belly to allow for a somewhat deeper string groove.

I know that it can be glued on after the limb comes out of the press, but I was wondering if anyone adds it when the limb goes into the press and if there is any reason not to include it in the press?

I do mine after the bow comes out of the form personally. If you pre-taper the overlay like you do with a tip wedge they feather into the glass much nicer than laying them up with the reast of the limb, and come out looking decent.

    Great looking overlays. I am leaning towards putting them on after the oven also. Any other pointers would be appreciated. Pre tapering is a good one. How thick do you go with them?

Thanks
