I am currently working on a kids board bow for another member. It is 49" ntn red oak with cherry tips and handle. 1 1/8" at the fades tapering from halfway to the tips (still 1/2" wide) Let me know where you think I need to fix the tiller. It is close to what I want and is pulling about 13# @ 15". I want to tiller to 20". It is for an 8 year old girl.

Looking at the pictures seems like I need to get the middle 1/3rd of the right limb flexing some more.
Like you said, a little more tillering mid-limb should do it.
One thing I notice about kids and bows, they can really heel the handle on the bow pretty hard. Wouldn't hurt to keep the lower limb a little stiffer than normal.
Good idea of using a string with a timber hitch. That's the first thing they lose :readit: ....Art
Thanks Art.
Does it look like the right is bending too much near the fade. I like the profile of it, but I want it to be bomb proof for a kid. I like the timber hitch for tillering as it is easier to adjust for brace height. Will do a flemish twist double loop for the string and probably put a stringer in with the whole package.
Looks pretty good to me with the right limb being the stiffer.
Looks pretty darn good to me. I dont think the right is bending too much at the fade. Looks like some scraping midlimb to tips should do it.
Did a little more scraping midlimb on the right limb and looks to be bending a little better to me.
Wish I new John, and others trick of playing with photos to superimpose the limbs on each other and other photos over the top of others to see how they were progressing.

Some more work done.

Very sweet looking bow, well done.
Well I think I got the flip and superimpose thing worked out. Looks a little beter than I thought. The clamp going to the right is the original.

I think a tripod so that the photo's are taken from the same spot would make this a little more useful, though it is very helpful.
Very nice.
Very sweet bow. I started one today for a 7yr old girl. I'll post it soon.
Well thanks for all the compliments but they were a little premature. Was checking the weight when I heard that dreaded TICK!!! Sure enough there was a crack right on the edge that went in about half the thickness of the limb.
This project started out with me trying to make matching bows for NCRecurveman's and my own 8 year old daughters. Well I have matching bows, they both have cracks in a limb. Why is it easy to make kids bows when we are not trying but really difficult when we want a good one. Luckily I found another kids bow I started a while back and had forgotten about. Will hopefully get a shooter out of it.

Mr. Tony I cant thank you enough for working so hsrd to help my little girl get a bow.
Sorry to see that. It does seem easier to make a kids bow when your not trying. I was cutting fades on a kids bow today, got uneven and sawed into the oak. It had a beautiful piece of cherry for the riser. Will see if I can salvage the riser piece later. In the meantime I picked up one I had started about a month ago to try to finish it. Good luck Razorback.
